He did his schooling in Lawrence School, Sanawar.<br /><br />He is the son of the punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, a former president of SAD. He was union minister of state for industry in Second Vajpayee Ministry from 1998 to 1999.<br /><br />He married to Smt.Harsimrat Kaur Badal on 21 November 1991 . Smt Harsimrat Kaur is also an Elected Member of Parliament from the Bathinda seat .<br /><br />Sukhbir, who joined mainstream politics after being elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996, was a minister of state for industries in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 1998-99. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in the 1998 general election. He was a Rajya Sabha member during 2001-2004 before being elected again to the Lok Sabha in May 2004.<br /><br />He was first elected (selected) as working president of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) in 2007 and then reselected as president in January, 2008. Later junior Badal gets himself baptised at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in September 2008. He was sworn in as Punjab's Deputy Chief Minister at Amritsar on 21st January, 2009.
